If you have a partner who is an Australian Citizen, Australian Permanent or Eligible New Zealand Citizen there are 3 different types of visa you could apply for, depending on your circumstances.
- Prospective Marriage - This visa is for those who are engaged to be married and allows the non australian visa holder to enter into Australia to get married within 9 months of being granted this visa. Once you are married you can then look at applying for a temporary partner visa.
- Temporary - The temporary visa is for those who have been either married, in a de facto or an interdependent (same sex) relationship for less than 5 years. In order to qualify for a de facto or an interdependent relationship you need to be living together for at least 12 months.
- Permanent - The permanent visa is for those couples who have been married, in a defacto or interdependent (same sex) relationship for at least 5 years or who have been on a temporary partner visa for 2 years.
