The Former Resident visa is designed mainly for those who used to be Australian Permanent Residents during at least half of their formative years - which is the years between 0 to 18, but no longer live in Australia. You can also qualify if you served in the Australian Armed Forces for at least 3 months before the 19th January 1981. You must be under 45 years of age when applying and be able to provide evidence that you have maintained close ties with Australia such as family, friends or business connections and/or frequent visits.
