New Zealand Citizens under a reciprocal agreement are allowed to live and work in Australia indefinately as temporary residents. If you are a family member of a New Zealand Citizen you may be elligible for a New Zealand Citizen Family Relationship visa which allows you the same rights as a New Zealand Citizen entering into Australia, the only difference is that this visa is only valid for 5 years at a time and needs to be renewed if you intend to remain resident in Australia. For the purpose of the visa a family member refers to a spouse, partner, dependent child, child of a dependent child or a family member who is not married, lives in the same household and is dependent on the applicant. If a New Zealand citizen was resident in Australia before the 26th February 2001 then they have the same rights as Australian Permanent Residents and can apply for Australian Citizenship should they wish to. These New Zealand Citizens are frequently referred to as Eligible New Zealand Citizens by the Australian Department of Immigration . © Grist International 2009 - Click Here for Terms and Condition of Website Usage
