There are 2 main types of sponsored visa which will give you permanent residency in Australia, as follows:

For both of these visas you need to be under the age of 45 to apply, have an occupation on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL)  - Schedule 4 for State/Territory Sponsorship and must score at least 100 points in the skilled points test.

State/Territory Sponsored Visa

In order to meet the criteria for this visa you must obtain sponsorship approval from a State or Territory. Each State and Territory issues a list of occupations that they are willing to sponsor, called a State/Territory Migration Plan and you need to apply for their sponsorship approval. Each State/Territory has it's own set of criteria and these can be found on each of the State or Territory web sites. Please understand that their occupation lists and criteria can be updated at any time. The good thing is that if you obtain State or Territory sponsorship you can claim an extra 10 points towards achieving your score of 100, so you only need to score 90 from the Points Test in order to qualify.

Family Sponsored Visa

In order to qualify for this visa you must have a close relation living in Australia who is an Australian Citizen,  Permanent Resident or Eligible New Zealand Citizen. A close relative for the purpose of this visa is a parent, uncle, aunt, brother, sister or child. Like the State Sponsored visa you need to score 100 points in the Points Test, but unlike the State Sponsored visa you do not get any extra points for a family sponsorship.
